The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that the first phase of the works on the closed section is set to begin on Saturday, November 8, 2025, and conclude on Sunday, November 9, 2025. During this weekend, the closure will be implemented during the night and early morning hours, specifically from 2300hrs to 0600hrs.
The second phase will occur the following weekend, from Saturday, November 15, 2025, to Sunday, November 16, 2025, with the disruption running from 1000hrs to 1400hrs. This phased approach is designed to minimize overall impact on commuters and commercial transport during peak hours.
To manage the flow of vehicles, KeNHA has advised that both Nairobi-bound and Thika-bound traffic will be diverted to use the respective adjacent service lanes before rejoining the Superhighway. The public notice issued by Ag. Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli includes a clear traffic management plan, showing diversion routes past key landmarks such as Total and Shell Fuel Stations for Nairobi-bound traffic, and Rubis and LEXO Fuel Stations for Thika-bound traffic.
Motorists are strongly urged to adhere to the proposed traffic management plan, exercise extreme caution around the work areas, and cooperate fully with the police and traffic marshals stationed on-site to ensure safety and efficient flow. The Authority stresses that this temporary inconvenience is a critical step in maintaining the high quality and longevity of the Superhighway, a foundational pillar of the country's infrastructure.
