Construction crews are currently on-site at the Amagoro Market in Busia County as the project moves to establish a modern trading hub for the region.
The facility is being developed to provide a structured environment for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise sector. Given its proximity to the Kenya-Uganda border, the market is positioned to facilitate stronger trade links and provide a primary node for regional commercial activity.
The architectural plan for the site consists of two single-storey blocks designed to house 200 smart stalls. These units include dedicated display areas and secure storage to assist traders in managing their inventory.
To support the trade of fresh produce, the project includes the installation of cold rooms for perishable goods. Administrative functions will be managed from on-site offices integrated into the primary blocks.
Project specifications indicate that the upper floors will accommodate a range of essential services. These include a revenue office, an ICT hub, and a social hall intended for community and trader use.
The design also incorporates a food court and an ATM lobby to cater to the daily needs of users. Sanitation requirements are addressed through a separate ablution block with dedicated facilities for ladies, gents and persons with disabilities.
Local authorities expect the completion of the Amagoro Market to replace informal trading arrangements with a safer and more organized layout.
By providing modern infrastructure near a critical transit point, the development aims to expand economic opportunities for local residents while improving the efficiency of the cross-border supply chain.
