Kongoni-Moidabi-Ngondi-Maiella Road Set for First-Ever Tarmac as Works Begin to Link Naivasha to Narok

Construction crews have begun excavation and drainage works on the Kongoni-Moidabi-Ngondi-Maiella road, a route set to receive tarmac surfacing for the first time, the State Department for Roads has confirmed.

The department said the works form part of preparations to seal the road, which has historically remained an unpaved route through the area.

Once complete, the corridor is expected to link Naivasha to Narok County, a connection officials say will strengthen regional connectivity between the two areas.

The department said the road would ease the movement of goods and people along the corridor, while supporting broader economic activity across the region.

Naivasha, in Nakuru County, sits along a key transport corridor in Kenya's Rift Valley region, linking Nairobi to towns further west including Narok, Kericho, and Kisumu.

Narok County, home to the Maasai Mara ecosystem, relies heavily on road access for both agricultural trade and tourism traffic heading into the reserve.

The State Department for Roads did not specify expected completion timeline for the Kongoni-Moidabi-Ngondi-Maiella corridor in its update.

Drainage installation, a standard early phase in road construction, typically precedes gravel base-laying and bitumen surfacing on projects of this scale.

The department said further updates on the project's progress would follow as construction continues along the route.
