New Administrative Hub Opens in Kangema to Localize Government Services

The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has overseen the completion of the Iyego Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) office in Gikui, Murang'a County.

Located within Muguru Ward in Kangema Constituency, the project was funded through the Kangema National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Dr. Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, confirmed that the facility is part of a broader strategy to expand administrative units across the country.

This development aims to enhance the efficiency of service delivery by National Government Administrative Officers, known as NGAOs.

Historically, residents of Iyego, Kiamara, Gikui, Nyakahura, and parts of Gacharaigu had to travel to Kangema town to access basic government services.

The new facility functions as a one-stop center, designed to minimize travel costs and time for the local population.

Among the services now available at the Gikui site are the issuance of national IDs and other essential civil documents.

Staff at the block will also handle the mediation of local disputes and the coordination of security matters within the sub-county.

The building provides a centralized point for citizens to access national government programs and obtain the necessary administrative letters.

Architecturally, the modern block includes dedicated offices for the Assistant County Commissioner and various Assistant Chiefs.

Security infrastructure was a priority in the design, as the building features a police Occurrence Book (OB) desk and a holding cell.

To align with national digitization goals, the department integrated an ICT hub into the facility.

This hub is intended to support the transition of manual government processes to digital platforms, making services more accessible.

Public amenities within the block include a boardroom for community and official meetings, a kitchen, and a waiting area for visitors.

The government maintains that such infrastructure upgrades are necessary to create a more responsive and citizen-centered service environment.

President Ruto’s administration has consistently emphasized the role of NGAOs in maintaining the link between the grassroots and the national executive.

By decentralizing these offices, the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration hopes to improve security monitoring at the village level.

The completion of this office highlights the continued utilization of NG-CDF kits for local infrastructure that complements national security goals.

Local leaders have previously called for such facilities to reduce the burden on elderly residents who find the trek to the main town difficult.

As the government continues to gazette new administrative units, the demand for similar permanent structures remains high across Murang'a County.

Construction of the Iyego block followed standard public works specifications to ensure the longevity of the administrative hub.

The facility is now expected to be fully operational, with staff already transitioning from temporary locations to the new headquarters.
