Preparatory works are progressing on the Mbanda-Nyamokomba-Ng'enyi Road in Kitutu Chache North Constituency, Kisii County, ahead of its upgrade to full bitumen standard.

Recent updates from the State Department for Roads show water bowsers dampening the road surface ahead of compaction, followed by application of a K1-60 prime coat, a cationic bitumen emulsion used to bind and stabilize the compacted base before the final asphalt layer is laid.

The State Department for Roads says the completed corridor will cut travel times, boost local trade and make journeys safer for residents moving goods and people through Kitutu Chache North.

The road is one stretch in a much larger network that was supposed to get bitumen upgrades under a project launched in 2016 by then President Uhuru Kenyatta, covering routes including Metembe, Owalo, Rioma, Marani, Bobaracho, Ragogo, Kegogi and Nyaore.

President William Ruto relaunched works on several of these roads during a development tour of the Gusii region, following delays that had affected the original 2016 timeline.

Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi has been among the leaders following up on the project's progress on behalf of residents in the constituency.
