President Ruto launches KSh6 billion road project in Narok County

President William Ruto officially launched the construction of the 20-kilometre Ololung'a-Ewaso Ng'iro road in Narok County. The project forms part of a broader KSh6 billion infrastructure commitment targeted at constructing a 300-kilometre road network across the region.

Heavy earthmoving machinery, including motor graders, has been deployed to earthworks sites as initial clearing and grading commence along the alignment. The regional road expansion program is expected to improve transport connectivity across various agricultural and commercial corridors within the county.

The road development initiative aligns with ongoing national programs overseen by state road agencies, including the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) and the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), which manage rural link roads and major national trunk corridors respectively.

Local transport links across Narok County currently face seasonal access challenges, particularly during wet weather periods when unpaved rural routes become difficult to navigate. Upgrading these primary routes to bitumen standards forms a major part of the regional infrastructure master plan.

The KSh6 billion financial allocation covers multi-phase road engineering, drainage installation, earthworks, and sub-base preparation across selected routes. Project teams have already established site presence along the designated corridor to facilitate full-scale mobilization of equipment and field personnel.

Government officials and local leaders attended the official groundbreaking ceremony, where heavy construction equipment was formally flagged off to mark the commencement of civil works on the project.

Construction activity along the Ololung'a-Ewaso Ng'iro stretch is scheduled to proceed in phases, with site clearing, earthworks, and drainage installation forming the primary phase of the civil engineering operations.

Additional road segments under the 300-kilometre allocation will be rolled out systematically as site preparations and contractor mobilization advance across designated project sites within the county.
