President William Ruto presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Olposmoru Off-Grid Project in Narok County. The infrastructure development falls under the umbrella of the Kenya Off-Grid Solar Access Project (KOSAP), which aims to extend power coverage to underserved regions.
The facility features a 145 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar photovoltaic system paired with a 322 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery energy storage system. A 66 kilovolt-ampere (kVA) diesel generator will supplement the installation to provide reliable electricity to 306 targeted beneficiaries.
The project scope extends to supporting the construction and equipping of a maternity ward at the local Olposmoru Dispensary. This inclusion aims to strengthen access to essential maternal healthcare services for the surrounding community.
Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira hosted the delegation during the site launch. The site installation forms part of a broader Last Mile Electricity Programme across the county, which carries an investment allocation of KES 2.8 billion aimed at connecting 15,257 households.
Work will proceed on the installation of the generation infrastructure, storage units, and connection distribution networks serving the community. The deployment reflects continued public investment in localized off-grid energy infrastructure across rural settings.
