Sports minister chairs AFCON 2027 steering committee meeting

Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Salim Mvurya chaired the Pamoja Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 National Steering Committee meeting at Talanta Plaza in Nairobi.

The session was convened to set the operational pace for the collective mandate assigned to the team as preparations accelerate toward hosting the continental football tournament.

During the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya challenged the committee members to put patriotism above all other considerations. He urged the team to work diligently and cohesively while rising above political rhetoric and individual interests.

He emphasized that delivering the tournament is a national assignment that demands maximum effort from all involved stakeholders as the country prepares to welcome the continent.

Kenya is preparing to host the event jointly with Uganda and Tanzania under the PAMOJA AFCON 2027 banner. The regional arrangement requires significant coordination across venues, infrastructure, and administrative frameworks to meet standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Preparations involve multiple government agencies and local organizing teams tasked with delivering completed facilities on schedule.

Addressing the committee, Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya noted that the focus must remain on the shared mandate to deliver a successful event. He pointed out that personal agendas and political commentary risk slowing down the pace required to complete critical planning milestones.
