Officers from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) conducted a targeted outreach campaign across Githunguri Sub-County to enforce strict compliance with fuel safety regulations.
The drive targeted local traders, boda boda operators, and municipal administrators, focusing on the safe handling of petroleum products and electrical connections.
The regulator held administrative sessions with local security committees to strengthen local monitoring of illegal fuel practices.
Inspectors instructed public transport operators and local retailers on proper storage, handling, and hazardous situation reporting to reduce preventable energy-related injuries and property destruction.
Under the Energy Act of 2019, operators who handle, distribute, or transport petroleum products without valid licenses face heavy statutory fines or imprisonment.
The enforcement drive aimed to eliminate illegal Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) refilling and non-compliant fuel retailing points operating within residential areas.
"These efforts underscore our commitment to preventing energy-related disasters through education and awareness, fostering a well-informed public to safeguard communities from hazards and reinforcing our mission to ensure no lives are lost to preventable energy or petroleum incidents," EPRA stated in an official update.
