President William Ruto commissioned the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road Flyover today. He used the occasion to highlight the government’s broader urban road improvement programme in Nairobi.

The President said 729 kilometres of roads are currently under routine maintenance. Additional sections are undergoing rehabilitation across the city.

These works form part of an ambitious effort to tackle long-standing traffic congestion. The flyover itself separates through traffic on Ngong Road from turning movements at the busy junction.

Routine maintenance focuses on preserving pavement and clearing drainage. Rehabilitation projects involve full reconstruction to extend road life and improve quality.

The programme targets both major arterials and secondary roads. The goal is to create a modern and efficient capital city that serves as Eastern Africa’s gateway.

For the construction sector, the scale of activity provides sustained opportunities. Contractors are delivering both quick maintenance wins and longer-term upgrades.

The Ngong Road Flyover is one of several high-profile projects. Its completion is expected to deliver immediate relief to motorists using the southwestern corridor.

Nairobi’s rapid growth has strained its road network for years. The current interventions aim to address bottlenecks that have hindered economic activity and daily mobility.

The government has pledged to maintain momentum on these works. The flyover commissioning marks another milestone in the ongoing transformation of the city’s infrastructure.
