Senior national government officials inspected the 350-bed Githunguri Level 5 Hospital to review construction progress ahead of operationalization.

Senior national government officials conducted an extensive site inspection of the multi-story Githunguri Level 5 Hospital construction project in Kiambu County.

The delegation focused on assessing structural milestones, mechanical installations, and finishing works required to bring the regional medical complex toward full operationalization.

Ministry of Defence (MoD) Principal Secretary Dr Patrick Mariru joined Ministry of Health (MoH) Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai and Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba for the detailed walkthrough of the facility.

The technical site assessment evaluated structural readiness, utility connection timelines, and interior finishing schedules across the primary hospital wings.

The multi-storey medical complex features a 350-bed capacity designed to address patient overload at regional referral centers. Once operational, the facility will provide specialized clinical services, surgical capacity, maternal healthcare, emergency medical response, and diagnostic testing services for residents across Githunguri, Limuru, Lari, Gatundu South, Ruiru, and surrounding sub-counties.

Construction oversight is managed directly through the MoD, utilizing Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) engineering units to drive project delivery.

The defense ministry maintains responsibility for structural execution and site oversight, while working alongside public health authorities to prepare the infrastructure for handover to the Kiambu County Government.

Government representatives held technical discussions with Kiambu County officials regarding equipment installation timelines, staffing requirements, and remaining deliverables.

State authorities noted that accelerating civil works remains essential to easing patient pressure on existing regional facilities, particularly the heavily reliant Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.

Local leadership acknowledged the joint effort between state ministries to complete the long-awaited project. County and national administration teams are coordinating final steps to ensure the structural handoff meets standard healthcare facility codes before public commissioning.
