The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) has initiated a call for participation to mark this yearβs Menstrual Hygiene Day. Through its Women Engineers Committee (WEC), the professional body is mobilizing resources to support girls in schools across the country.
The campaign, which culminates on Thursday, May 28, 2026, focuses on promoting Menstrual Hygiene Management and awareness within educational institutions. Organizers emphasize that providing access to essential supplies is a key factor in ensuring girls remain in the classroom.

Data from various education stakeholders often link poor access to hygiene products with increased absenteeism among female students. The IEK is requesting contributions of sanitary pads, books, pens, and pencils to support the initiative.
Donations are being accepted in various forms, including physical items and financial contributions to facilitate the logistics of the outreach. For those providing financial support, the committee has established an M-Pesa paybill number 976295 under the account name MHD-26.
Physical donations of school supplies and hygiene products can be delivered to the IEK headquarters. The offices are located at Top Plaza, 1st floor, along Kindaruma Road in Nairobi.
This initiative reflects a broader trend within the Kenyan professional sector to address social barriers that affect long-term human capital development.
The WEC has been active in promoting the interests of women within the engineering profession while engaging in community-based social responsibility programs. By involving the engineering community, the IEK aims to leverage its professional network to create a measurable impact on school attendance figures.
The 2026 Menstrual Hygiene Day theme focuses on breaking the stigma associated with menstruation, which often hinders the educational progress of young girls.
The committee noted that even small contributions of stationery or hygiene products can make a lasting difference in a student's life.
Engineering firms and individual members of the public are encouraged to drop off their donations before the May 28 deadline. This campaign joins several other national efforts to institutionalize better hygiene standards in public schools.
The IEK continues to position itself as a key player in not just infrastructure, but also the social welfare of the communities it serves.
