Four stadiums across three counties are undergoing active construction to host national celebrations and leave lasting community legacy monuments.

Four stadiums across Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, and Uasin Gishu counties are undergoing simultaneous construction and upgrading ahead of the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebrations. The development push comes as the government prepares to host the national event across three regional administrative areas.

Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen inspected the ongoing works during an evaluation tour of the regional infrastructure. Government officials confirmed that the multi-facility project aims to deliver lasting sports monuments for the region.

In Uasin Gishu County, construction at the 15,000-seater Kipchoge Keino Stadium has reached 58 per cent completion. Modernisation works are also proceeding at the 64 Stadium located in Eldoret town.

Meanwhile, construction at Kamariny Stadium in Keiyo North Sub-County, Elgeyo-Marakwet, is more than halfway done. The venue will hold regional sports competitions prior to the main national holiday.

The joint-hosting arrangement covers supportive infrastructure alongside the sports venues. Road network improvements, energy distribution, and water supply projects are being implemented concurrently across all three counties.

Additional civil works are taking place in Iten Town, where the state is building new county headquarters. Further activities, including a national youth summit in Nandi and athletic events in Tot, are tied into the infrastructure timeline.

The sports infrastructure projects are slated to hand over before the October 20 deadline. Local officials expect the venues to serve public events and regional athletics long after the national festivities conclude.
