The Kenyan cabinet has sanctioned the KSh26 billion Judicial Performance Improvement Project Phase II. The project, in partnership with the World Bank, will construct a new Supreme Court complex, a dedicated Court of Appeal, consolidated tribunals and a Judiciary Administration complex, alongside a modern Kenya Judiciary Academy.
These facilities are expected to significantly strengthen access to justice, improve judicial efficiency and boost investor confidence. The initiative aims to modernise the judiciaryβs physical infrastructure to match its growing role in the justice system.
In a separate cost-saving measure, the cabinet froze the leasing or hiring of additional office space. This decision comes pending a comprehensive audit of government office space utilisation.
The government is developing a programme to renovate public offices and make them more efficient and fit for service delivery. The reforms are part of efforts to reduce wasteful expenditure on office space and improve public service delivery.
The cabinet also established a Standing Cabinet Committee on Artificial Intelligence. The committee will steer Kenyaβs national AI strategy, coordinate policy across government and position the country as a regional leader in responsible AI development and adoption.
Additionally, the cabinet adopted the National Business Process Outsourcing Policy. The policy aims to position Kenya as a leading global outsourcing destination, create thousands of quality jobs for young people, attract international investment and expand digital employment opportunities.
The measures reflect the governmentβs focus on modernising public institutions, improving efficiency and leveraging technology for economic growth and better service delivery.
