KETRACO has completed the upgrade of the 132kV Garissa Substation increasing transformer capacity from 7.5 MVA to 23 MVA to meet growing electricity demand in the region.

KETRACO has successfully upgraded the 132kV Garissa Substation. The company increased the transformer capacity from 7.5 MVA to 23 MVA. This upgrade triples the power supply capacity in the area.

The project was marked by a visit from PS Energy Alex Wachira. It aims to provide more reliable and stable electricity to the people of Garissa and surrounding regions.

The substation was first commissioned in 2016. It ended the region's long dependence on expensive diesel power by connecting it to the national grid through the Mwingi Garissa transmission line.

With this latest upgrade KETRACO is not only securing Garissa's power supply but also enabling the energization of Dadaab through a 33kV feeder.

The investment is expected to strengthen livelihoods support economic growth and expand access to reliable electricity across North Eastern Kenya.
