The Ministry of Roads and Transport has held a joint stakeholder engagement meeting with road sector leadership and active contractors to discuss project execution across the country.

Led by Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir alongside Principal Secretary for Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, the consultative forum brought together executive directors from key state infrastructure agencies.

Heads of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), and Kenya Roads Board (KRB) attended the session, which aimed to align public agency priorities with private sector project delivery expectations.

During the session, transport officials and contractor representatives addressed operational challenges affecting ongoing road construction, network maintenance, and financial disbursements.

Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir highlighted the necessity of structured dialogue between the ministry, state agencies, and private contractors to ensure timely project completion across national, urban, and rural road networks.

The meeting provided a platform for contractors to voice field concerns regarding funding timelines, site access, and contract execution. In response, Principal Secretary Eng. Joseph Mbugua emphasized that close coordination between the ministry and state corporations is critical for maintaining infrastructure standards.

The discussions focused on strengthening operational synergy between the major state road authorities. The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) remains responsible for national trunk roads, while the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) manages urban road networks.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) oversees rural access routes, and the Kenya Roads Board (KRB) manages the allocation and oversight of the road maintenance fund.

Contractors present at the meeting highlighted the need for predictable payment schedules and streamlined administrative procedures across all four agencies.

Transport ministry officials reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with contractors to resolve pending issues, ensuring that active infrastructure projects proceed without prolonged operational interruptions.

The collaborative forum marks an effort by the Ministry of Roads and Transport to streamline communication across the entire transport sector infrastructure pipeline.

By bringing regulatory authorities, funding boards, and private builders into a single forum, the ministry seeks to establish clear mechanisms for tracking progress and addressing bottlenecks in Kenya's expanding road network.
