Government infrastructure works at the Kaiboi ESP Market in Mosop reach final stages, providing 400 traders with cold storage and modern amenities to bridge the gap for Nandi farmers.

Construction works at the Kaiboi Economic Stimulus Program (ESP) Market in Mosop Constituency are entering the final phases, signaling a shift in the logistical landscape for traders in Nandi County. The project, implemented under the national government's Economic Stimulus Program, is designed to provide a structured environment for rural commerce while addressing long-standing gaps in post-harvest management.

The facility is engineered to accommodate approximately 400 traders within a modern architectural framework. Key technical features include a dedicated cold storage unit, which is a critical addition for the preservation of perishable agricultural produce. This infrastructure is expected to mitigate the high rates of spoilage often experienced by small-scale farmers in the region.

Beyond storage, the site incorporates comprehensive waste management systems and specialized ablution blocks to maintain sanitary standards. The design also accounts for social and logistical needs, featuring a community hall, a hotel, and a dedicated mothers' room. These amenities represent a departure from traditional open-air markets, focusing on a multi-use approach to rural trade hubs.

The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has played a secondary role in the project by overseeing the protection of public assets during the construction period. Dr. Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary for Internal Security, noted that the department's involvement ensures the smooth implementation of projects tied to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Geographically, the Kaiboi market is positioned to serve as a central link for farmers across the fertile Nandi highlands. By providing a localized trade point, the project aims to reduce the necessity for long-distance travel to Eldoret, which has historically been the primary destination for bulk sales. This shift is intended to lower overhead costs for producers and keep more capital within the local constituency.

The completion of the Kaiboi facility is part of a broader rollout of ESP markets across the country, which seeks to formalize informal trade through better infrastructure. As the contractor finalizes the remaining installations, local administration officials are expected to begin the process of verifying and allocating spaces to the intended beneficiaries.
