President William Ruto has announced that the government has allocated KSh7 billion for the construction and realignment of the Nithi Bridge. The President said the contractor is already on site.

The announcement was made while addressing residents in the region. The Nithi Bridge has long been known as a dangerous black spot due to sharp curves and steep gradients that have contributed to numerous fatal accidents.

The new project involves realignment to straighten the hazardous bends and create a longer, safer crossing. This is expected to significantly reduce the risk of accidents along the busy Embu-Meru highway.

The bridge spans the Nithi River and serves as a key link in the corridor. Completion of the upgraded structure is anticipated to enhance safety and improve traffic flow for motorists.

The project forms part of broader infrastructure development efforts in the eastern region. It is expected to support economic activities by providing a more reliable and safer link for goods and passengers.

President Ruto emphasised the government’s commitment to delivering critical road and bridge projects. He said the allocation demonstrates priority given to safety and connectivity in high-risk areas.

The contractor’s mobilisation indicates that preliminary works are underway. Detailed timelines for completion will be confirmed as construction progresses.

The Nithi Bridge realignment has been a long-standing demand from local communities and road safety advocates. Its upgrade is expected to bring significant relief to residents and travellers who have been affected by the previous design.

The project aligns with national goals to modernise transport infrastructure and improve road safety through better geometric standards.
