A major security installation along a vital northern transit corridor has been put on hold after regional rivalry disrupted the state infrastructure plan.

The national government has suspended plans to construct a multi-agency security installation along the Moyale to Marsabit to Isiolo road corridor.

The decision halts a strategic infrastructure project intended to bolster regional safety, but it became entangled in local politics.

Internal Security Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed the freeze in a press statement.

Murkomen said the choice followed consultations between security agencies and leaders from the two affected counties.

The talks took place under the Jukwaa la Usalama (JLU) forum.

A territorial disagreement between Marsabit and Wajir counties over the exact location of the facility prompted the sudden stoppage.

The dispute handles a sensitive boundary line where the multi-agency center was to sit.

Local leaders raised concerns regarding jurisdiction and land ownership, which threatened to spark wider community friction.

The Ministry of Interior and National Administration chose to pause the work to prevent escalation.

Officials say the project will remain frozen until surveyors and local administrators establish the definitive boundary line.

The road corridor is a critical trade route connecting Kenya to Ethiopia.

Security installations along this path are designed to curb banditry, human trafficking, and illicit trade.

The government regularly deploys joint teams of police and administrative units to manage these remote outposts.

The Jukwaa la Usalama forum has now been tasked with mediating the specific border coordinates before any workers return to the site.

Work will only resume when both county leadership structures sign off on the geographical placement.
