The national government has unveiled interventions aimed at protecting farmers from the impacts of severe drought, as public concerns grow over prolonged dry conditions affecting crop production across the country.
Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mutahi Kagwe assured the country of food security, noting that measures are being implemented to support agricultural producers against climate shocks.
Addressing stakeholders at the Chebut Tea Factory, officials emphasised the strategic role of public institutions in managing agricultural supply chains during adverse weather patterns.
The intervention involves state agencies, including the Tea Board of Kenya (TBK) and Kenya Seed Company Ltd (KSC), which are coordinating efforts to safeguard critical crop yields.
Agricultural infrastructure and rural processing facilities, such as those operated under the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) Holdings Limited, remain central to executing regional stability plans.
The administration highlighted that supporting irrigation infrastructure, seed distribution, and regional processing plants will be crucial to maintaining production levels during extended dry spells.
Government officials stated that ongoing interventions will focus on enhancing resilience within the agricultural sector, ensuring smallholder farmers receive logistical and technical support.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to monitoring national food reserves, assuring the public that long-term strategic stocks will prevent food deficits despite prevailing weather challenges.
