The Kenya National Highways Authority has issued an urgent warning regarding sophisticated recruitment scams targeting job seekers eyeing positions on the multi-billion shilling Rironi to Mau Summit road upgrades.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), has raised the alarm over a surge in fraudulent recruitment notices and SMS messages targeting the public.

These scams specifically reference two major infrastructure undertakings: the Rironi to Gilgil (A8) project and the Rironi to Mai Mahiu to Naivasha (A8 South) road projects.

According to a public notice signed by Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli, fraudsters are currently circulating messages that claim to offer employment opportunities within these high-profile road developments.

The agency noted that the criminals behind these schemes are requesting applicants to submit sensitive personal documents through unofficial email addresses.

Furthermore, the scammers are demanding payments via M-Pesa. These illegal fees are often disguised as charges for medical processing, document verification, or general recruitment application costs.

KeNHA has moved to clarify its hiring protocols to protect unsuspecting Kenyans from financial loss. The Authority stated that the project does not charge any fee at any stage of the hiring process, including shortlisting and interviews.

"The Project does not charge any fee for job applications, shortlisting, interviews, medical processing, document verification, or employment," the notice read.

The public has been advised to ignore any person claiming to offer jobs on behalf of KeNHA, the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), or the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) in exchange for money.

The directive also warned against sharing personal data with unauthorized agents or through private phone numbers. Official recruitment information is only shared through authorized government channels.

Anyone who has encountered these suspicious requests is urged to report the matter to the nearest police station or local administration office.

The Rironi to Mau Summit road project is a critical component of the Northern Corridor, aimed at expanding the existing two-lane highway to a four-lane dual carriageway.

Given the scale of the project, it has become a frequent target for digital fraudsters looking to exploit the high demand for construction labor and technical roles in the region.

The government maintains that all official communication regarding such massive infrastructure works remains transparent and free of charge.

By issuing this alert, Eng. Kimeli emphasized the commitment of the Authority to protecting the integrity of its human resource processes.

Vigilance remains the primary defense for job seekers, who are encouraged to verify all information through the official KeNHA website or their dedicated customer care lines.
