A female student from St Alloyce Gonzaga School died on the spot after being hit by a speeding lorry that veered off the road in Langata.

A Form Four student from St Alloyce Gonzaga School lost her life in a road accident along the Southern Bypass in Langata Sub-County on Thursday morning.

The student was riding on a motorbike on her way to school when a lorry struck her. She died instantly at the scene.

The motorbike rider sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment in hospital. The student’s body was moved to Nairobi Funeral Home pending autopsy.

Muguimoine area chief George Mukuria said the lorry was carrying construction sand toward Mombasa Road. It rolled down the guard rail and plunged into the Charles Lwanga School compound.

Police have secured the scene and plan to tow the damaged vehicle to Langata Police Station for further investigations.

Local residents have renewed calls for installation of speed bumps along the busy Southern Bypass to curb reckless driving.

Road accidents involving heavy vehicles remain a concern in the area. The Southern Bypass handles significant traffic between different parts of Nairobi and beyond.

Authorities are expected to provide more details once investigations progress.
