The National Transport and Safety Authority has published a comprehensive list of accredited medical facilities authorised to conduct mandatory health screening for drivers across the country.
In a notice issued on March 4, 2026, NTSA clarified that only the listed centres are permitted to carry out medical assessments required for driver licensing and renewal. The screening forms part of compliance measures under road safety and occupational health regulations.
The authority stated that the approved facilities have been vetted in collaboration with the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services and meet the required standards to assess drivers’ physical fitness. Examinations typically cover eyesight, hearing and other medical conditions that may affect safe operation of a motor vehicle.
The facilities are distributed across major urban centres and selected counties as follows:
Nairobi County
• DOSHS Medical Offices – Industrial Area
• Salubrity Centre – Argwings Kodhek Road
• Afya Centre – Tom Mboya Street
• Additional approved facilities located along Kangundo Road, Lunga Lunga Road, Ngara, Upper Hill, South C, Nairobi West and Kilimani
Mombasa County
• Adena OSH Centre – Nyerere Avenue
• Facility located at Links Plaza – Nyali
• Additional accredited centres along or near Makadara Road
Nakuru County
• Stirling Healthcare Consultants – Nakuru Town
Uasin Gishu County
• Cedar Clinical Associates – Eldoret
Kisumu County
• Afya Centre – Indusi Road
Laikipia County
• Nanyuki Cottage Hospital – Nanyuki
• Accredited facility along Nanyuki–Laikipia Road
NTSA emphasised that drivers must ensure their medical examinations are conducted strictly at these approved facilities. Certificates issued by unaccredited centres risk rejection during the licence application or renewal process.
The authority further indicated that the requirement for medical fitness assessments remains mandatory, particularly for drivers applying for new licences or renewing existing ones. The screening aims to ensure that motorists meet minimum physical standards before being certified fit to drive.
Drivers found medically unfit may be advised to seek treatment before reapplying. NTSA did not announce changes to the screening criteria but reiterated that compliance is necessary to enhance road safety oversight.
The publication of the list follows continued enforcement efforts by transport authorities to tighten adherence to licensing procedures. Health screening requirements have been part of Kenya’s regulatory framework for several years, particularly for public service vehicle operators and commercial drivers.
By formally listing the approved facilities, NTSA seeks to eliminate confusion among motorists and curb the circulation of invalid medical certificates. The agency advised drivers to confirm facility accreditation before booking appointments.
The updated roster applies nationwide, with the listed centres serving as designated examination points until further notice from the authority.
