The Ministry of Defence has advanced its ongoing infrastructure development layout at the Kahawa Garrison, following a high-level site inspection by senior government officials.

Principal Secretary for Defence, Dr. Patrick Mariru, led the delegation to assess the construction progress of the Kahawa Garrison Housing Programme.

The initiative aligns with the national housing vision championed by President Ruto, who has consistently prioritized institutional accommodation for state officers.

The development consists of 65 residential blocks, designed to provide comprehensive accommodation for service members.

In total, the construction site will deliver 3,285 housing units upon full completion of the project.

The structural distribution of the buildings caters to different ranks within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

According to official project data, the residential units include 760 two-bedroom apartments and 260 three-bedroom apartments.

The largest allocation within the site consists of 1,360 single-line units, alongside 680 bedsitters.

Senior officers have been allocated dedicated spaces within the project layout, ensuring their welfare requirements are met.

These provisions include 75 one-bedroom units designed specifically for senior officers, plus an additional 150 studio units.

The primary objective of the massive construction layout is to improve the quality of accommodation for military personnel.

Ministry officials noted that the modern residential blocks will also serve the families of the service members.

A substantial number of the housing units in Kahawa are on schedule to finish quickly.

Contractors expect these specific blocks to be completed, and ready for occupancy by the end of this year.

The timeline for the remaining sections of the development extends into the subsequent calendar year.

Project managers confirmed the entire residential development will achieve complete handover by next year.

During the assessment, Dr. Mariru was accompanied by key technical and administrative leaders from the defence headquarters.

Chief of Infrastructure at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Brig. Said Mwacharo, joined the tour to provide technical evaluations.

Camp Commandant Kahawa Garrison, Col. Valentine Kilungya, was also present to represent the station command during the inspection.

The team reviewed the architectural models and physical progress of the ongoing building blocks.

The site visit emphasizes the government's focus on structured infrastructure development for its security agencies.

Construction works continue on the site, with multiple residential blocks already showing advanced structural forms.
