Multi-billion-dollar developments are expanding across Africa, driven by rising demand for modern transit, power generation, and commercial centers. Sovereign wealth funds and international financial institutions continue to direct substantial funding into these heavy civil projects.
Cross-border infrastructure initiatives form a core part of this expansion. The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), stretching 1,443 kilometers between Uganda and Tanzania, remains among the highest-value energy ventures in the region.
Power generation assets are also securing multi-billion-dollar commitments. The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on the Blue Nile represents a crucial hydro project aimed at regional energy export and domestic supply.
Similarly, Egypt’s El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant (EDNPP) continues civil construction works on the North African coast to diversify national energy production.
Urban development and maritime transit hubs are attracting equal financial interest. Egypt is progressing with the New Administrative Capital (NAC), a massive project intended to relieve congestion in Cairo.
Nigeria's Lekki Deep Sea Port (LDSP) expands maritime freight handling capacities, while the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) system builds out urban rail capacity to reduce road gridlock.
Industrial and extraction ventures also feature heavily among the major regional projects. Mozambique LNG, led by TotalEnergies, targets offshore natural gas reserves to supply global markets.
In South Africa, the Kusile Power Station (KPS) project continues to undergo technical upgrades to stabilize the national electrical grid.
Meanwhile, transport networks continue to expand across Northern and Western Africa. Morocco is scaling up its High-Speed Rail (HSR) network to link primary economic hubs, while the Trans-Sahara Highway (TSH) corridor continues construction works across six countries to improve cross-border logistics.
These ten major infrastructure developments reflect ongoing capital deployment across key sectors, including transport networks, energy facilities, and urban hubs.
Each project continues to advance under its respective development timeline and capital framework.
