The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has notified the public of a temporary closure of the Nairobi Southern Bypass from Ole Sereni Interchange to Kikuyu Town.

This closure is scheduled to commence from Saturday, October 25, 2025, at midnight (12:00 AM) and will last until Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM.

This closure is to allow for the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon to take place.

Motorists are advised to use Mombasa Road (A8) from Ole Sereni Interchange through Uhuru Highway and vice versa as the alternative route.

All road users are further advised to follow traffic signs and guidance as directed by traffic marshals and police on site.

The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is one of Kenya's most significant annual sporting events, often described as a beacon of purpose-driven initiatives, celebrating the country's legacy as the home of world-class long-distance runners. A major focus of the event is its social impact, primarily through the Futuremakers initiative by Standard Chartered, which aims to support youth education and entrepreneurship, particularly for women and persons with disabilities.

The marathon typically features a wide range of categories to encourage mass participation, usually including the 42km Full Marathon, the 21km Half Marathon, the 10km Race, a Wheelchair Race category, and a 5km Family Fun Run. The main race generally starts and finishes at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi. The race often holds World Athletics accreditation, confirming it meets rigorous international standards for competition. Leading up to the main event, satellite runs are frequently held in other Kenyan cities such as Mombasa, Kisumu, and Eldoret.
