The Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) has extended the submission deadline for three categories under its 2026 Awards Programme, giving architects across the Commonwealth additional time to enter work that might otherwise have missed the original cut.
The new deadline of June 2, 2026 applies to three Professional Practice Award categories. The Lifetime Achievement Award honours a Commonwealth architect or practice whose body of work has significantly advanced architecture across the Commonwealth over many years.
The Environmental Impact Award recognises work in any sector that demonstrates measurable positive environmental impact across areas including circular economy, energy and carbon, water, ecology and biodiversity and connectivity and transport.
The Social Impact Award recognises work demonstrating significant positive social impact in areas such as affordability, community development, health and wellbeing and social value.
The deadline for Education Awards remains unchanged at June 23, 2026. These cover the CAA Student Award for students in years one to three, and the CAA President's Award for students in years four, five and six. Student award winners each receive a £500 cash prize and selected work will be featured in an online exhibition hosted by the CAA.
The awards are free to enter. Judging will be carried out by two panels representing five Commonwealth regions: the Caribbean and Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. The professional practice jury includes Christian Benimana of Rwanda, Caroline Pidcock of Australia and 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Professor Yasmeen Lari of Pakistan, among others.
Winners will be celebrated at the CAA General Assembly in Auckland, New Zealand, from September 7 to 10, 2026, hosted by the New Zealand Institute of Architects.
The extension carries particular relevance for Kenyan architects. CAA President Steven Oundo, elected at the 2024 General Assembly in Kigali, comes from the Architects Association of Kenya. His stated position is that architects have a critical role in creating resilient, sustainable and equitable built environments, and that the awards programme celebrates those leading that work across the Commonwealth.
Submissions can be made at caaa.awardsplatform.com. The full awards programme, including categories, criteria and submission requirements, is available on the CAA website at commonwealtharchitects.org.
