The toy manufacturer LEGO has unveiled its largest model kit to date, choosing the historic Sagrada Família basilica in Barcelona as its subject.
Comprising 12,060 individual pieces, the scale model stands at over 60-centimeters high when fully assembled.
The product launch is timed to coincide with the centenary of the original architect Antoni Gaudí's death, which aligns with the scheduled conclusion of the main external building works at the Spanish site.
Company designers have configured the assembly sequence to mirror the historical progression of the real-world engineering project.
Work on the model begins with the Apse with Crypt and the Nativity façade, which represents the only portion of the landmark that Gaudí managed to see completed before he died.
Initial construction on the actual basilica commenced in 1882, meaning building crews have been working on the structure for more than 140 years.
The landmark currently reaches 172.5-metres above the city of Barcelona.
It secured the title of the tallest church building in the world after surpassing Germany's Ulm Minster, which had maintained the height record since 1890.
The replica model is designed to mimic the natural internal illumination that filters through the stained-glass installations of the real church.
No release dates or retail pricing figures have been made public yet, but the sheer volume of parts makes it the highest piece-count set the Danish company has ever manufactured.
