Engineers converted an Electric Vehicle (EV) into the world's largest remote-controlled car in three days.
Popular online content creator WhistlinDiesel modified a Tesla Cybertruck, allowing an external operator to navigate the vehicle completely outside the cabin.
The conversion process targeted the steer-by-wire system and electronic throttle mechanisms of the Tesla Cybertruck.
Technicians installed custom actuators and signal receivers, which allowed full external control of steering, braking, and acceleration without a driver inside.
Once the remote setup was functional, the team organized a high-speed collision test to evaluate the modifications under extreme operational stress. The operator accelerated the uncrewed vehicle across an open testing facility, pushing the machine to maximum speed.
During the run, the remote-controlled Tesla Cybertruck reached 111 miles per hour (mph) before crashing directly into a parked Ford F-150. The high-speed impact caused extensive structural damage to both vehicles upon contact.
This experiment demonstrated the feasibility of converting complex, modern steer-by-wire automotive architectures into functional remote-control platforms on short timelines.
