Automotive assembler Isuzu East Africa (Isuzu EA) is constructing a new automotive parts distribution hub in Machakos County to anchor its regional logistics. The project involves a substantial financial outlay to establish a modern warehouse capable of handling high volumes of automotive components.
The company, which commands a 53 percent share of Kenya's new vehicle market, expects the facility to streamline supply chains. Spanning across local and regional networks, the facility aims to eliminate delays for commercial and passenger vehicle owners, who rely on genuine components.
The project, valued at Sh3.1 billion, is located in the Lukenya area of Machakos along the busy Mombasa Road transit corridor. Choosing this specific location provides direct access to both the capital city and the main transport artery connecting the port of Mombasa to the East African hinterland.
Construction began following a groundbreaking ceremony held in August 2025. According to company executives, construction work has progressed steadily over the recent months. The automotive firm targets full completion of the civil works and warehouse installations by the end of this year.
Isuzu EA Managing Director Rita Kavashe stated that the facility represents a core component of the long-term strategy of the company. She noted that the new hub will expand aftersales support, but it will also improve overall service delivery to customers across Kenya and neighboring nations.
The facility is designed to integrate advanced vehicle diagnostic tools and standardized service processes. Beyond serving as a storehouse, the complex will host trained technicians to handle complex technical tasks, although it primarily functions as a parts hub.
Industry observers note that the investment arrives during a period of sustained demand for commercial vehicles across the country. Lower lending rates, ongoing public infrastructure projects, and expanding economic activity have collectively sustained the demand for heavy transport and light commercial trucks.
The Lukenya hub forms part of a broader investment pool by the firm, which totaled Sh7 billion over a three-year period. These funds have been directed toward manufacturing infrastructure and advanced technology, including a Sh1 billion electro-deposition paint plant commissioned recently to improve assembly quality
The expansion also coincides with the local assembly of specialized passenger models. Isuzu EA recently completed the localization of its sport utility vehicle (SUV), which makes Kenya the first assembly location for this specific vehicle model outside of Thailand.
Government officials have welcomed the private capital deployment into the local manufacturing sector. Investment, Trade, and Industry Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui noted that local assembly and robust logistics networks support national industrialization goals, when regional competitiveness is considered.
The development has also drawn positive feedback from regional commerce stakeholders, who emphasize the ancillary benefits of large industrial sites. Local analysts point out that heavy industrial developments trigger secondary investments in infrastructure, if the surrounding area experiences growth.
With an operational history spanning five decades in the Kenyan market, the company continues to transition its portfolio toward full local assembly. The establishment of the massive parts facility is viewed as a defensive measure to secure its massive market share against rising international competition.
Dealers, independent mechanics, and fleet operators are expected to benefit directly from the centralized inventory. By holding comprehensive stock locally, the assembler intends to reduce transit times for specialized components, but it requires efficient logistical execution.
