Engineering teams are advancing paving works along the Mbomboini section to establish a direct transport link for Kikuyu Constituency commuters.

Road construction crews have advanced paving operations along the Mbomboini section of the Nachu Shell–Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Road in Kiambu County.

The project forms a critical link within the regional transport network, which is designed to connect Kikuyu Constituency directly to the Ngong–Suswa Road.

The State Department for Roads (SDR) confirmed the ongoing operations, which involve laying fresh asphalt along the targeted corridor.

Paving teams and heavy compaction equipment are currently deployed on-site to complete the base and wearing layers of the new tarmac surface.

This infrastructure link aims to significantly lower transit durations for regional commuters and commercial transporters operating between Kiambu and neighboring corridors.

By bridging the gap between Kikuyu Constituency and the Ngong–Suswa corridor, the route bypasses congested urban centers and establishes a more direct freight path.

Local business operators stand to gain improved access to market centers across the region, which may help lower transportation expenses for agricultural produce and commercial goods.

The government stated that the infrastructural investment is targeted at unlocking economic potential and enhancing trade capacity across the surrounding agricultural areas.

The works on the Nachu Shell–SGR corridor form part of broader government initiatives to improve feeder roads that connect rural agricultural hubs directly to primary national transport corridors, such as the SGR freight network and regional highways.

Project supervisors report that civil works along the Mbomboini section are moving forward according to scheduled timelines, with contractors maintaining active machinery on site to finish the remaining surfacing phases.
