Engineers advance superstructure works across the Enziu River, bringing long-awaited transport links closer for several local rural communities.

Construction of the Enziu Bridge and its connecting approach roads in Mwingi, Kitui County, has reached 70 percent physical completion.

Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) Director General Engineer Jackson Magondu confirmed the status during an inspection tour of the infrastructure site.

The site visit focused primarily on assessing the installation of steel girders, which form a major component of the bridge superstructure.

Contractors on-site are positioning these heavy structural elements, which are expected to speed up subsequent phases once fully installed.

Remaining tasks involve finalizing the superstructure elements, casting the deck, and completing the structural earthworks along the access corridors.

The project seeks to restore a permanent link across the Enziu River, where seasonal flooding regularly disrupts transport between nearby settlements.

Once finished, the crossing will improve transit and cargo movement across Nguni, Muangeni, Mutyang'ombe, Kaai, and Nuu.

Local trade in agricultural produce and access to basic essential services across Mwingi sub-county depend heavily on this crossing.

KeRRA stated that oversight measures remain active on-site to ensure work quality and project accountability through completion.
