Construction of a new four-storey clinical annex in Nyeri reaches crucial initial progress under strict defence ministry oversight.

The ongoing construction of the Mwai Kibaki Clinical Hospital Annex in Othaya, Nyeri County, has reached 15 percent completion, following an inspection visit by government officials.

The project is under active supervision by the Ministry of Defence (MoD), which is overseeing structural implementation to ensure adherence to strict infrastructural standards.

During an inspection tour on Friday, Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru noted that works are progressing steadily on the site.

The civil works involve the erection of a multi-storey medical wing designed to alleviate pressure on existing regional health facilities.

The planned installation comprises a four-storey hospital building, which will accommodate a 150-bed capacity alongside multiple auxiliary modern medical amenities.

Mariru was joined on the site tour by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Othaya Constituency, Hon. Wambugu Wainaina, who assessed the foundational progress.

The delegation evaluated the ongoing structural concrete works, which form the primary base of the modern medical facility.

The collaborative inspection highlighted the structural framework, which requires meticulous oversight during the early phases of civil engineering.

The defense ministry has increasingly taken on critical public infrastructure assignments, bringing logistical precision to major state-funded construction projects across the country.

The national government remains committed to improving local healthcare infrastructure, which benefits residents in Nyeri and surrounding agricultural economic zones.

Local administrators emphasized that the physical layout must support efficient patient flows, which is critical for Level 6 medical training and referral hubs.

The expanded capacity will directly support specialized inpatient and outpatient interventions, which have seen rising demand in the central region.

Contractors on site have maintained steady output, which keeps the physical construction phase aligned with initial engineering blueprints.

The engineering teams are working to deliver the infrastructural project on time, with the final handover scheduled for December 2026.
