The Naitiri ESP Market in Tongaren Constituency, Bungoma County, has reached 96 percent completion. The project is replacing informal open-air trading with a modern, structured and weather-proof commercial hub.

Groundbroken by President William Ruto in February 2024, the facility is designed to serve over 2,000 traders. Ongoing works include welding, metal fabrication and installation of modern trading stalls.

Once operational, the market will create thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities while strengthening local value chains and small enterprise growth. It incorporates post-harvest preservation units with fresh produce sheds and storage zones to reduce agricultural losses.

The market also features a children’s playground, an ICT hub and creche/breastfeeding spaces for trading mothers. Improved sanitation systems include a water tower, drainage works and modern waste facilities.

The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has provided on-the-ground coordination to ensure seamless stakeholder alignment and orderly implementation.
