Construction work at the ongoing Thika Stadium project in Kiambu County has reached the 20 percent mark, government officials confirmed during a routine site inspection on Thursday morning.
Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Defence (MOD), Dr. Patrick Mariru, inspected the facility to assess structural progress on the ground.
The venue is undergoing a comprehensive redevelopment designed to transform it into a 10,000-seater international standard arena.
Government timelines indicate that civil works on the site will finish before December 2026, aligning with structural schedules issued by President Ruto.
The project is managed under the military portfolio as part of a national directive to modernise regional sports infrastructure.
During the inspection, Dr. Mariru was accompanied by James Wanyoike, the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) for Thika West Sub-County, alongside technical officers drawn from both national government departments and Kiambu County.
According to MOD, military oversight on civic developments aims to enforce standards, stimulate surrounding commerce, and generate direct employment for local youth through construction labor.
Contractors are currently advancing foundational earthworks and primary structural framing across active zones of the complex.
