The National Construction Authority has activated its July renewal period, urging contractors to complete paperwork and CPD points for the 2026/2027 financial year.

The National Construction Authority has opened its annual practising licence renewal window for contractors across Kenya. The process runs from 1 July to 31 July 2026 for the 2026/2027 financial year.

Every local contractor is required to log into the NCA portal and complete the necessary paperwork during this period. Missing the deadline risks losing active status, which is critical in an industry built on compliance and credibility.

The authority has reminded contractors who skipped Continuous Professional Development training in the previous financial year that no shortcuts will be allowed this time. Regulation 14 of the NCA Regulations 2014 makes it mandatory to accrue 10 CPD points through NCA or NCA-accredited seminars before a licence application can be considered.

Contractors are advised to act early rather than wait for the final week when portal traffic tends to spike. Gathering documents and completing training requirements can take time, and early renewal often leads to a smoother experience.

NCA Executive Director and Registrar of Contractors Eng. Maurice Akech signed off on the notice. It emphasises that licensing renewal is not merely an administrative chore but the industry’s yearly checkpoint for tracking qualified and active professionals.

From major projects in Nairobi to county-level infrastructure works, a properly licensed contractor pool protects public safety and upholds the sector’s reputation. The renewal process ensures that only compliant firms operate on construction sites nationwide.

The construction industry in Kenya continues to face scrutiny over quality, safety and accountability. Timely licence renewal helps maintain standards and demonstrates commitment to professional practice.

Many contractors treat the process as a rush job at the last minute. However, the authority is sending a clear message that compliance is non-negotiable for those wishing to remain in business legally.

The registration details are already available on the NCA website. Contractors are encouraged to review requirements, complete any outstanding CPD points, and submit applications well before the 31 July deadline.

This annual exercise is part of broader efforts to regulate the built environment. It covers firms involved in everything from residential developments to large public infrastructure projects managed by bodies such as KeNHA and Kenya Power.

For contractors, maintaining an active NCA licence is essential for bidding on projects and avoiding penalties. The renewal window serves as both a regulatory requirement and an opportunity to update records and stay compliant.

Construction Today has reminded the industry that the clock is now running. Early action is the best way to avoid disruptions and keep operations running smoothly into the new financial year.
