Construction of the Kenyatta Avenue–Upper Hill Viaduct is making steady progress. The project is bringing Nairobi closer to a more efficient, connected and modern urban transport system.

Implemented by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority, the project has reached the superstructure stage. Reinforced concrete piers and pier caps are complete, with installation of precast girders now paving the way for the elevated bridge deck. The deck is already complete on some sections.

The one kilometre dual carriageway will link Upper Hill, Valley Road and the Central Business District. It is expected to ease congestion while incorporating dedicated pedestrian walkways and cycle lanes to promote safe, inclusive and sustainable urban mobility.

The viaduct complements the Valley Road–Kenyatta Avenue/Ngong Road/Nyerere Road Interchange and the Upper Hill–Haile Selassie Overpass. Together these projects are strengthening Nairobi’s transport network and supporting economic growth through improved connectivity.

Every minute saved in transport is viewed as an investment in productivity, innovation and economic growth. The elevated structure is designed to reduce travel times and improve traffic flow in one of Nairobi’s busiest corridors.

The project forms part of broader efforts to modernise Nairobi’s road infrastructure. Elevated roads and interchanges are helping address congestion in key economic zones such as Upper Hill and the Central Business District.

Further updates on the project are expected as the superstructure works continue toward completion. The Kenya Urban Roads Authority continues to monitor progress to ensure timely delivery.
