President William Ruto announced a new 30km road between Kitengela and Ong'ata Rongai plus dualling of the Isinya-Konza City route during a Kajiado ceremony on February 28.

President William Ruto announced plans to build a 30-kilometre road linking Kitengela town in Kajiado East sub-county with Ong'ata Rongai township in Kajiado North.

He spoke on Saturday, February 28, at the thanksgiving ceremony for Principal Secretary Judith Pareno, who heads the Justice, Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs docket. The venue sat inside Kajiado County.

Ruto told the gathering the project would settle years of complaints from residents and transporters over the route's condition. The alignment runs parallel to the Nairobi National Park boundary and the Standard Gauge Railway line as far as the Tuala neighbourhood. It then passes the African Nazarene University, reaches the SGR station at Ong'ata Rongai, continues to Rimpa and finally joins Magadi Road.

That same stretch last received rehabilitation work in 2014. Since then the surface has deteriorated sharply, creating daily problems for vehicles that use it.

The road carries quarry stones and pozzolana mined at Sholinke and Nkurunka. Its path clips a corner of Machakos County near Embakasi, supplying raw materials to cement processors across the region.

Ruto stated that money for the work already exists. He added that he would personally launch construction once he clears a handful of pending matters.

"We have the money to build that road. I will come to launch the construction myself once I deal with a few issues," the President said.

During the same address he turned to two more road projects for the county.

The first concerns the Isinya-Konza City road, officially designated B50. Kenya National Highways Authority records show it will connect the Athi River-Namanga Road (A2) at Isinya with Konza Technopolis before meeting the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway (A8) at Malili.

The full length measures about 50 kilometres, with 38 kilometres inside Kajiado and the remainder split between Machakos and Makueni counties. Authorities plan to upgrade and dual the carriageway so vehicles can travel at speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour.

The improved corridor is meant to take pressure off the main Nairobi-Mombasa highway and open a straighter link to Konza Technopolis.

Ruto also flagged the 63-kilometre Isara (Emali Junction)-Mashuuru-Imaroro stretch. This section will be upgraded to B2 standard, with tendering scheduled for March.

"We are not going to recarpet the road. We will build it afresh," he declared.

The three announcements arrived together as part of a package of commitments directed at Kajiado residents. The county sits immediately south of Nairobi and handles heavy commuter and freight traffic between the capital and southern Kenya.

Local leaders and residents at the ceremony listened closely as the President outlined the works. The event itself drew a sizable crowd inside the county.

No exact start dates beyond the March tender announcement and Ruto's personal launch pledge were given for the Kitengela-Rongai or Isinya-Konza projects.
