President William Ruto officially launched the Sh2.3 billion Turbo-Sikhendu Road on October 17, 2025, marking a major step in improving connectivity and trade in Western Kenya. The project, implemented by KeRRA, will upgrade the link between Turbo, Nzoia, Matisi, Makutano, and Sikhendu towns to bitumen standard within 24 months.

President William Ruto, on October 17, 2025, officially launched the construction of the Turbo-Sikhendu Road, a transformative infrastructure project aimed at improving transport and trade between Turbo, Nzoia, Matisi, Makutano, and Sikhendu towns. The new road will open up agricultural zones in Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia counties, providing a faster and safer route for farmers, traders, and transporters in the region.

The project, implemented under the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), is valued at approximately Sh2.3 billion and is expected to take 24 months to complete. It includes upgrading the existing gravel road to bitumen standard, constructing drainage systems, culverts, and bridges, and installing modern safety features to make the road durable and accessible throughout the year.

During the launch ceremony, President Ruto reaffirmed his government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure in rural and high-production areas. He said the new road will stimulate economic activity by connecting farmers to markets in Eldoret, Kitale, and beyond, while also reducing transport costs and travel time. “This project will make it easier for our people to trade, move goods, and access essential services, driving real transformation at the grassroots,” the President asserted.

The Turbo-Sikhendu Road is part of the government’s broader North Rift connectivity program, which seeks to link productive rural areas with major highways such as the Eldoret-Malaba corridor. The locals and leaders have lauded the project as a game-changer that will attract investment, enhance mobility, and improve the overall quality of life across the two counties.
