Fresh details have emerged following a dramatic incident in Kasarani where a Subaru driver was pursued by boda boda riders after allegedly causing multiple accidents along Thika Road.

The incident gained widespread attention after a viral video showed the driver speeding away while dragging a motorcycle that had become lodged beneath the vehicle. During the chase, one of the passengers reportedly jumped out of the moving car after sensing the danger.

According to reports, the driver is believed to have been intoxicated and had earlier collided with a matatu in Roysambu before fleeing the scene. Moments later, he allegedly knocked down a boda boda rider carrying a passenger, prompting fellow riders to pursue him through the busy road.

The riders eventually caught up with the vehicle and reportedly attacked the driver before police officers arrived and intervened. The driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Road safety lobby group Sikika Road Safety stated that the Subaru was extensively vandalised during the confrontation. The rear windscreen was shattered, the car radio was stolen, and several other items were taken before traffic officers from Kasarani Police Station recovered and towed the vehicle.

The boda boda rider escaped without serious injuries, while the passenger suffered minor injuries. The driver remained under medical care and was expected to record a statement with the police once his condition improved.

Traffic along the affected road was temporarily disrupted as curious motorists slowed down to watch the unfolding incident. The congestion eased after officers cleared the scene and directed vehicles to continue with their journeys.

The incident sparked widespread discussion online, where many Kenyans expressed concern about dangerous driving on public roads. Some argued that reckless motorists should face legal consequences to improve road safety.

Others, however, cautioned against mob justice, saying that suspected traffic offenders should be handed over to police instead of being confronted by angry crowds. They noted that such situations can easily become violent.

Road safety experts have repeatedly warned that speeding remains one of the leading causes of serious road crashes in Kenya. They encourage all motorists to obey traffic rules, maintain safe speeds and remain alert at all times.

Boda boda riders also play an important role in road safety because they spend long hours using public roads every day. However, authorities continue to advise riders to report dangerous incidents through the proper channels instead of engaging in risky pursuits.

Police have urged drivers involved in road incidents to cooperate with law enforcement officers whenever complaints arise. They say leaving the scene or attempting to escape may worsen an already difficult situation.

The National Police Service has also continued to remind motorists that reckless driving is a traffic offence that can result in prosecution if sufficient evidence is presented before a court.

Investigators are expected to review available video recordings, witness statements, and any other evidence collected from the scene. The findings will help determine whether any traffic laws were broken and whether charges should be filed.

As investigations continue, authorities have appealed to members of the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course. They also urged all road users to exercise patience, respect traffic regulations and prioritize safety to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
