Nearly 3,000 injured as rescue teams search rubble after two powerful quakes.

Two strong earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday night. The death toll has risen to 589 people. Acting President Delcy RodrΓguez announced the updated figure.

The number of injured stands at 2,980. The quakes had magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5. They struck a minute apart and caused widespread destruction.

The second quake was the strongest to hit the country since 1900. Damage is severe in coastal areas and Caracas. Rescue operations continue in collapsed buildings.

International teams have joined local efforts. Swiss rescuers, Mexican aid workers and others are on the ground. Search dogs and specialised equipment support survivor hunts.

Hospitals in affected regions are overwhelmed. Medical supplies are in short supply. Care centres have been set up for the injured.

Aftershocks continue with over 200 recorded so far. La Guaira state is one of the worst hit areas. It has been militarised to aid emergency response.

Foreign nationals are among the dead and missing. Spain, Brazil, China and other countries report losses. Families struggle to locate loved ones.

The disasters come at a time of political uncertainty in Venezuela. Infrastructure damage compounds existing challenges. Civil society groups are helping with rescue and relief.

Rescue operations remain active. The first 72 hours are critical but hope persists for more survivors. International support is coordinating additional aid.
