The Voi Pool Affordable Housing Project is currently under construction in Taita Taveta, delivering 458 residential units across G+11 blocks to address the region's growing urban housing demand.

Construction activity has intensified at the Voi Pool Affordable Housing Project in Taita Taveta County, where the government is overseeing the development of 458 new residential units. The initiative, which officially commenced in January 2025, represents a significant shift in the local skyline through the introduction of G+11 residential blocks. This high-density approach is designed to maximize land use within Voi Constituency while providing a variety of housing tiers to accommodate different economic brackets.

The project structure is divided into three distinct categories: social housing, affordable housing, and market-price units. This mix includes studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom houses, aimed at creating a balanced community within the estate. According to the latest project briefings, the development is not merely residential but serves as a self-sustaining urban node. Block A, for instance, is designated to house 22 retail shops, providing a commercial anchor for the residents.

Beyond the living quarters, the site plan incorporates an extensive list of social and technical amenities. Essential infrastructure currently being integrated includes a kindergarten, a social hall, and a basketball court for recreation. From a utility standpoint, the estate will be equipped with a dedicated water treatment plant, a drilled water system, and backup generators to ensure a consistent supply of services. Wide internal driveways and modern lifts are being installed to support the vertical nature of the G+11 structures.

The economic impact on the local workforce remains a primary focus of the site operations. At its current peak, the project supports approximately 230 workers daily. This workforce includes 10 interns and 5 attaches, reflecting a deliberate effort to provide practical skills development for young professionals in the construction industry. The presence of these trainees alongside experienced masons, electricians, and plumbers highlights the project's role in vocational capacity building within the coastal region.

Security and logistical stability have been managed through the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration. This department has played a facilitative role in safeguarding materials and ensuring an orderly environment for the contractors. This oversight is intended to prevent interruptions in the implementation schedule, which is vital for a project of this scale.

The Voi Pool development is part of the broader Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), which seeks to bridge the housing deficit across Kenya. By integrating local labor and providing specialized commercial spaces, the project is expected to stimulate the local economy in Taita Taveta long after the final blocks are capped. As work continues, the focus remains on meeting the technical standards required for high-rise occupancy while adhering to the delivery timelines set at the beginning of the construction cycle.
