Construction works at the Boma Yangu Wote Pool Affordable Housing Estate in Makueni County have reached the final delivery stages as contractors move to complete the residential blocks and integrated social amenities. The project, which is being implemented by Parklane Construction Company, consists of 755 housing units designed to address the growing demand for low and middle-income accommodation within Wote Town.
The development has been structured as a mixed-use community rather than a traditional residential estate. Beyond the housing blocks, the site includes 65 commercial stalls, a shopping centre, and a three-story commercial hub intended to stimulate local trade. Social infrastructure on site includes a community hall, a clubhouse, a kindergarten, and dedicated outdoor recreational areas for children. Technical teams are currently overseeing the installation of essential services, including a borehole for water supply, a backup power generator, and a perimeter security wall.
Internal infrastructure within the estate features cob-paved driveways and green spaces designed to improve the living standards of future residents.
The project has provided a platform for local skilled labour, with over 280 workers engaged in trades such as masonry, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical wiring. These workers are receiving certification through the Kenya National Qualifications Authority, linking the physical construction process with professional skill development for the local workforce.
The land for the development was provided by the Makueni County Government, illustrating a functional partnership with the national government’s Affordable Housing Programme. This collaboration is part of a broader infrastructure push in the region, which includes the Sh556.9 million Wote Civil Servants Housing Project being handled by Hashit Construction and General Supplies Ltd. While the Wote Pool estate is nearing its final handover, the civil servants' scheme is projected for completion in May 2027.
Pricing for the units has been tiered to accommodate different income levels. Social housing options include one-room units starting at Sh640,000 and three-room units priced at approximately Sh1.28 million. For those in the affordable housing bracket, studio apartments are listed at Sh1 million, while two-bedroom units are priced at Sh2 million. Market-rate units, which offer higher specifications, range from Sh3.6 million for two bedrooms to Sh4.8 million for three-bedroom apartments.
Strategically, the project supports the urban development goals of Kenya Vision 2030 by centralising housing and commercial activities. The influx of residents is expected to trigger further growth in Wote Town’s service sector. Local suppliers of construction materials, including steel and timber, have remained active throughout the build process, maintaining an economic ripple effect across the county. As the site transitions from structural work to finishing and landscaping, the focus remains on meeting the technical standards required for the formal handover of the estate to the State Department for Housing and Urban Development.
