The Kenya National Highways Authority has issued a public notice for the partial closure of a section of Mombasa Road (A8) at the Eastern Bypass Junction Ramp. The affected portion covers the Mombasa-bound lanes and will be closed from Tuesday, June 30, to Tuesday, July 7.
The temporary measure is required to allow construction of a box culvert on the road section. These drainage structures are installed under highways to manage water flow and protect the road base from erosion during heavy rainfall.
Motorists travelling on the Mombasa-bound lanes who intend to join the Eastern Bypass using the ramp after the overpass bridge have been given clear instructions. They must drive straight past the closed ramp and turn left onto a marked diversion.
The diversion route reconnects with the ramp further ahead, allowing drivers to join the Bypass without major detours. The arrangement has been designed to keep traffic moving while the culvert works are completed.
All road users approaching the junction have been advised to exercise extra caution. They should follow the traffic management plan set up on site and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be directing vehicles during the period.
Mombasa Road serves as the main highway linking Nairobi to the coast and carries heavy volumes of both passenger and freight traffic every day. The Eastern Bypass provides a vital alternative that helps ease pressure on routes through the city centre.
Construction of the box culvert forms part of KeNHAβs regular programme to maintain and improve drainage on national trunk roads. Proper drainage reduces the chances of water ponding on the carriageway and extends the lifespan of the pavement.
The one-week window has been selected to finish the installation quickly while keeping disruption to a minimum. The authority has urged drivers to plan their journeys in advance and to allow additional travel time when passing through the area.
The public notice was signed by Eng. Luka Kimeli, Director General of KeNHA. Motorists seeking further information can reach the authority through its toll-free line, customer care number or official email and social media channels.
