Ministry of Interior Identifies Diversion Routes for Travelers During Gichugu Jamhuri Day Celebrations

The Ministry of Interior has released a detailed traffic management plan for motorists traveling through Kirinyaga County during the Jamhuri Day celebrations scheduled for December 12.

With the national event being hosted at the Wang'uru Stadium in Gichugu, authorities expect a heavy influx of vehicles that could lead to significant delays on the main highways connecting Nairobi to the central and western regions of the country.

To manage the anticipated pressure on the road network, the government has designated several alternative routes for transit vehicles and private motorists who are not attending the ceremony.

Motorists heading to Nyeri and Meru from Nairobi are advised to divert at Kenol and proceed through Murang'a town and Sagana to bypass the heavy traffic expected near the stadium. This route is intended to keep long-distance travelers away from the immediate vicinity of the Gichugu festivities.

For those traveling toward Western Kenya and parts of the Rift Valley via the central corridor, the advisory suggests utilizing the Sagana to Karatina road or the Makutano to Embu highway, depending on the final destination.

Traffic police officers will be stationed at key intersections, including the Makutano junction and the Mwea Tebere stretch, to provide direction and ensure the flow of vehicles remains steady throughout the day.

Security officials have also restricted access to certain roads surrounding Wang'uru Stadium to authorized vehicles and emergency services only.

Public transport operators and private drivers have been urged to plan their journeys in advance and follow the instructions of personnel on the ground.

The Ministry noted that these measures are temporary and will be lifted once the national celebrations conclude and the crowds disperse from the venue.
