The National Construction Authority has halted work on a 13-storey residential development on Peponi Road after the structure exhibited signs of failure, prompting evacuations of neighboring buildings.

The National Construction Authority (NCA) has ordered an immediate suspension of all construction activities at a high-rise residential site in the Westlands area of Nairobi.

The intervention followed reports of structural failure received on Monday, 15th December 2025, concerning a development located on Peponi Road.

A quality assurance team dispatched to the site confirmed that the building, which was designed to include three basement levels and thirteen suspended floors, exhibited significant signs of structural distress.

Following the confirmation, the site was cordoned off to ensure public safety. The project, registered under number 53127415710979 in September 2024, listed Meraki Universal Building Limited as the contractor.

Safety protocols have been extended beyond the site boundaries. The National Disaster Management Unit and the National Police Service currently control the surrounding area, and occupants of neighboring buildings have been advised to vacate their premises temporarily.

This measure remains in effect as technical teams conduct further assessments of the site and its immediate impact on the local environment.

A Multi-Sectoral Agencies Coordinating Committee has been established to investigate the integrity of the structure. This committee includes representatives from the Engineers Board of Kenya, the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors, NEMA, and the Nairobi City County Government.

The primary objective of the multispectral committee is to determine whether the building can be salvaged through engineering interventions or if a controlled demolition is required.

The NCA has stated that no further work will be permitted on the site until the investigations are concluded and formal recommendations are implemented.

Professional records indicate that the project’s design was overseen by Architect Peter Kamau Mwangi and Structural Engineer Samuel Maina Wairimu.

The Authority has urged the public to avoid the cordoned area and wait for further official updates as the technical audit progresses.
