The Bumala Modern Market in Busia County is 87% complete, expected to serve over 400 traders with state-of-the-art facilities like two cold rooms, an ICT hub, and a crèche. The project aims to create a safer, more organized trading environment, while its construction has already provided steady employment to about 250 local workers, injecting vital income into the community.

The long-anticipated Bumala Modern Market project in Busia County is rapidly approaching its final stages, with construction completion officially registered at an impressive 87%.

This facility is not merely an addition to the region's infrastructure but represents a significant upgrade in the trading ecosystem, designed meticulously to create a safer, more organized, and demonstrably efficient environment right at the economic heart of Bumala.

Upon commissioning, the market will accommodate more than 400 traders, and is projected to handle up to 1,000 individuals during peak market days.
The architectural and functional design of the market incorporates a robust suite of amenities aimed at enhancing both hygiene and the overall quality of business operations.

Key features include two state-of-the-art cold rooms specifically designated for the handling and preservation of perishable goods, ensuring high standards are met, and food waste is minimized.

Furthermore, the facility includes dedicated spaces for an ICT hub and a server room, signaling a commitment to integrating modern technology into market operations.

Community essential services are integrated into the structure, such as a SACCO office to facilitate access to financial services for traders, a fully equipped first aid room, and a crèche to support working parents.

Operational elements like the revenue office, power room, two kitchens, and a central food court round out the offerings, all designed to support a wider and more diverse range of economic activities.
Crucially, the development has already delivered substantial benefits to the local populace even before its doors open for trade. The construction phase has been a source of steady employment for approximately 250 workers from the local community.

This intensive labor utilization has successfully injected vital income into households, directly supporting local livelihoods and affirming the project’s dual role as both an infrastructural development and an economic stimulant.
