The upgrading to bitumen standards and ongoing routine maintenance of the Kakamega - Navakholo - Musikoma Road is progressing under the management of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).
This 43-kilometre route is a critical transport corridor within Western Kenya, directly connecting Kakamega and Bungoma Counties. The road's conversion to bitumen surfacing is expected to substantially improve transit conditions across the region.
A primary objective of the works is to enhance the movement of agricultural goods, particularly by shortening travel times for farmers transporting their produce to local and regional markets.
In addition to agricultural benefits, the completion of the project will increase reliable access for residents to essential social services. These amenities include schools, health facilities, and various government offices situated along or near the corridor.
This infrastructure scheme is viewed by the government as an integral component of regional economic and social development. The sustained effort by KeRRA on this route aims to strengthen inter-county connectivity and facilitate trade flow between the two counties and the surrounding areas.
The road, which is often cited in discussions concerning Western Kenya's development agenda, has been the subject of attention from the government due to its importance to local livelihoods.
