The Nanyuki Modern Market is set to become Laikipia's economic hub, accommodating over 648 traders in a new ultra-modern facility with cold rooms and an ICT hub. Aligning with the BETA agenda, the project is creating jobs and providing a dignified, regulated environment for traders.

The development of the Nanyuki Modern Market is rapidly transforming Laikipia County's commercial landscape, establishing itself as a key economic hub and directly empowering local traders.

This flagship project strongly underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive development, aligning seamlessly with the overarching Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

By replacing the old, inadequate makeshift structures, the ultra-modern facility is designed to offer a dignified and efficient trading environment for over 648 entrepreneurs, a significant portion of whom are women and youth from the informal sector.

This expansive construction incorporates a comprehensive array of world-class amenities crucial for sustained commercial activity and social support.

The facility will feature 20 retail shops, secure and spacious stalls, dedicated storage facilities equipped with cold rooms to preserve perishable goods, modern sanitation blocks, and a fully functional power house.

Furthermore, the design includes a first aid room, a crèche for the children of traders, a vital ICT hub for digital enablement, a kitchen, and essential meeting rooms.

The meticulous planning ensures proper drainage systems and public amenities, guaranteeing a clean, highly accessible, and efficient marketplace for all users.

The market is not just a commercial structure; it is an active catalyst for job creation, having already generated numerous employment opportunities for masons, artisans, suppliers, and security personnel during its construction phase.

The operational stage promises even greater employment impact. Critically, the market is poised to strengthen regional supply chains by providing a regulated, direct linkage between local farmers and producers and the end consumers, thereby maximising local economic returns.
