According to an update published by the State Department for Roads (SDR), the completed surfacing of the Kagaene–Kimerei link advances ongoing efforts to modernize the rural transport corridor. Official statements confirm that the road modernization project is designed to boost connectivity between local agricultural producers and commercial trading centers across the county.
Engineering works along the broader project route focus on converting earth and gravel tracks into fully paved standards. Civil works of this nature are intended to preserve structural road integrity during heavy rainfall periods, while also reducing dust pollution along heavily traveled trading routes.
The infrastructure development links major trade nodes, connecting rural farming areas directly to surrounding marketplace facilities. Paved upgrades are progressing across the remaining unpaved sections to complete the scheduled corridor route, which spans key agricultural zones within Tharaka Nithi.
Construction crews are executing auxiliary infrastructure works along the newly surfaced stretch. These tasks include drainage installation, earthwork shoulder leveling, and lane marking, all of which are standard requirements for completing bitumen road projects.
